Robin Roth smiled broadly as she leaned in to hug Lisa Aronson amid a throng of people gathered in downtown Highland Park Saturday morning.
“You got a good turnout,” Roth said to Aronson, who was helping the family of her brother, Mark Filler, to sign in participants at the first Jordan Michael Filler Foundation 5K.
Hundreds of people turned out on the chilly fall morning to raise money for the foundation, to show their support, and to help raise awareness for the Highland Park family’s cause — battling heroin use and stamping out the stigma that accompanies addiction.
The eldest child of Mark and Julie Filler and brother of Jessica, Lauren and Jennifer, Jordan Filler was just 23 when he died of a heroin overdose.
“We are bringing together the community about a cause that is, unfortunately, affecting our community,” said Jessica Filler, who coordinated the 5K.
