Heroes don’t always win, but they always fight. Jordan possessed a zeal for life which eludes most other people. Go ahead, ask around. Talk to anyone who knew Jordan before his energy, enthusiasm and, ultimately, his life was consumed by an addiction to heroin. They’ll all tell you the same thing… Great brother… Great friend… Great teammate… Great son. You may live your entire life and never meet a more generous and loyal friend than Jordan. Even at his lowest points in life, that was a constant you could always depend on.
“When I die I’d rather people remember me as a hero than a criminal. It’s hard to choose from the many ways to impact the world but I might want to do something like find a cure for cancer. Although I’ve never experienced it, I imagine that one of the greatest feelings in the world is to save someone’s life. The satisfaction of saving the many lives that are taken each year due to cancer would in my opinion be second to none.”
Age 15, Highland Park High school
The above quote was taken directly from Jordan’s high school journal. He was 15 at the time, a freshman with the heart and the wisdom of a much older person. Read the journal entry: How would you influence the world in a big way? Jordan would have rid the world of cancer, and had his life not been derailed by heroin, he was the kind of person who would have set out to do just that.
Today, we’re not fighting the cancer that Jordan was speaking of. Instead, we’re fighting the cancer that ripped apart a family. It’s a tribute to a wonderful human being. It’s the way Jordan wanted to change the world. To put an end to a disease that affected so many people. To be remembered, not as an addict, but as a hero. A hero who’s still battling today. A hero who will, before we’re through, have saved thousands of lives. A wonderful person who will live on forever.

How would you influence the world in a big way?
If I had the chance to influence the world in a great way it would be in a positive manner. When I die, I'd rather people remember me as a hero than a criminal. It's hard to choose from the many ways to impact the world but I might want to do something like find a cure for caner. Although I've never experienced it, I imagine that one of the greatest feelings in the world is to save someone's life. The satisfaction of saving the many lives that are taken each year due to cancer, would in my opinion be second to none. Cancer has also affected people I know such as my friends' parents. My friends are also hurt by cancer. So not only would a cure help the patient but many others close to him/her. So in total, more people would benefit from a cure to cancer more than almost any other possible impact.
