As part of JMFF’s ongoing commitment to educate and keep youth safe from the perils of substance abuse, we have partnered with CVS and School District 113 to bring the powerful CVS Pharmacist Teach Program to local high school students.
In this innovative, informative and thought-provoking format, CVS pharmacists visit local schools and provide a compelling presentation utilizing film, facts, and questions and answers sessions - all designed to ensure that high schoolers see first-hand how dangerous the opioid epidemic is, and how it destroys lives, futures, and families.
Among the highlights of the presentation are facts such as: "Despite making up only 5% of the world’s population, the U.S. uses 99% of the world’s hydrocodone and over 80% of its oxycodone."
Kids also learn that drug overdoses claim a life every 19 minutes, 44,000 die each year, and that substance abuse is on the rise in the Chicagoland area.
The presentation also includes a powerful video with compelling depictions of real-life suburban youth substance abusers and the dangerous results that can, and will, arise when people mistakenly believe that “one time won’t hurt. The presentation also destroys the myth that "it’s ok to experiment with drugs found in the medicine cabinet” and that prescribed medications do not pose the dangers that illegal drugs do.
JMFF is proud to bring this powerful message to local students, and we look forward to hearing your feedback.
