JMFF believes that no one should be denied access to lifesaving treatment for inability to pay. Accordingly, the foundation has established a fund in perpetuity at Chicago’s Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital designed to help cover the cost of medical treatment for patients in financial need. This fund allows Lurie’s healthcare providers to treat individuals who lack health insurance as well as those who do not have adequate medical insurance coverage. To date the Filler Care Fund has provided critical financial support for treatment to dozens of individuals.
The Ann and Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Adolescent Mental Health and Substance Use Facility is the site where all of JMFF’s initiatives come to life. With our help, a state-of –the- art building has been created, and a renowned team of experts in physical and mental health, substance use, research and community outreach hired to begin the task of educating, changing attitudes, and saving lives. Together, we are raising awareness and bringing treatment options to all in need…saving lives, families and futures that might otherwise be lost.
A key to the effectiveness of the JMFF-Lurie endeavor is the unique, comprehensive approach. The Jordan Michael Filler Foundation responded to the lack of adolescent-specific substance use and opioid treatment options in Chicago and Midwest in general, by donating one million dollars to the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to help create and launch a new outpatient Adolescent Substance Use Prevention Program. Led by Dr. Maria Rahmandar, an adolescent medicine physician specialized in substance use treatment and prevention, and staffed by an acclaimed team of multidisciplinary experts from Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, and nursing, with ties to Emergency Medicine, Hospital-based medicine and beyond, the facility is the region’s first such program to be embedded within an outpatient medical setting.
Opened in February, the new Lurie facility provides a full spectrum of services including medication-assisted treatment, therapies for substance use, patient and family education and support, therapeutic offerings including yoga, meditation and art, school and community outreach, and research….all which providing patients with a full range of medical and mental health services. As the Lurie facility continues to grow, JMFF will continue to fund its dedicated Care Fund, ensuring that no one is turned away from treatment for inability to pay, and will expand our financial and personal support of ongoing research and outreach.
